Mercedes SRS light on

In the majority of cases when the SRS light is on on your Mercedes, the fault is associated to the passenger seat pad.

In the passenger seat there is an electronic pad that sensors whether the seat is occupied and therefore switches the passenger air bag on or off.  Also incorporated in a number of vehicles is a child seat recognition circuit which will switch off the passenger air bag if a Mercedes Child Seat is fitted to the front passenger seat.

When this seat pad goes faulty it will give you a SRS fault display and also the light on in the passenger air bag switch indicating a fault.

The fitting of a new pad is relatively expensive with the part being anywhere between £190.00 and £450.00 depending on the type.  Add to this approx 3 hrs labour and you are looking at an expensive repair.

Mercedes SRS Reset

We have an option where we can switch off this feature off the vehicles computer. Yes it has ramifications. You will not be able to use a Mercedes Child seat or any other child seat in the front passenger seat again however in the case of an accident the Air Bags will be deployed as designed.

This option will cost in the region of £75.00 depending again on the vehicle as there are a number of Mercedes that require a password to access the program and there is a charge of £30 for the password.  This is the same price as we initially pay for the acquisition of the password. Still a cheaper option.

You will be required to sign a document which states that you are aware of the changes to the system following the repair.

This will be part of the new MOT test in 2012
