Drive a Brand-New Mercedes for Just One £1

You have been driving a second-hand Smart car for years. You salivate over the idea of getting behind the wheel of a Mercedes-Benz, but you do not have the money to buy new. Having seen the prices of second-hand Mercedes cars for sale, you cannot even afford to buy used. But now you can get your hands on a brand-new Mercedes A180 for just £1. What’s the catch?

Car hire companies are frequently forced to balance their inventories by moving cars from one location to another. For example, a lot of cars end up at the airport by necessity. But because not as many are rented from airport locations, the excess inventory has to be moved to other sites. That’s where you come in.

According to the Mirror, a growing number of car hire companies are turning to their customers to move cars for them. They have discovered that it is a lot cheaper than hiring a professional transport firm. In addition, letting customers transport the cars for next to nothing is excellent PR.

How the Programme Works

Let’s say you are planning a trip to Paris. One of the participating car hire companies has a Mercedes A180 that needs to get to the City of Lights. You rent it for just £1 and then drive the distance at your leisure. However, there would be some conditions:

  1. You would be responsible for your own petrol (the car comes with a full tank).
  2. You would only have 36 hours to deliver the car to its destination.
  3. You would only be covered for 1200 miles. Additional miles would cost you.
  4. You would have to find your own way home, at your own expense.
  5. You would have to put down a refundable deposit just to make sure you play nice with the car.

Your rental would come with insurance, and you would have to be at least 21 years old with a valid driving licence. Other than that, there is not much else to worry about.

Your Chance to Drive a Great Car

This programme is not for drivers looking for round-trip transportation. It is ideal for customers willing to hitch a ride home or pay for other transport to make the return trip. If it all sounds interesting to you, then you might want to investigate it further. Car hire firms are giving you a chance at a great drive even as you scream over the high prices of second-hand Mercedes cars for sale.

Of course, not all the cars that need to be moved are Mercedes-Benz models. One of the firms mentioned by the Mirror has a city car that needs to get from Glasgow Airport to Manchester sometime between now and June 1st. Nobody knows if it’s a Smart car or some other nameplate. Either way though, making the trip is pretty cheap if you don’t mind the 213 miles and the fact that it’s one way.
